1 Present simple Future simple Type 2 Past simple S + would/could/might + V (bare infinitive) * The conditional sentences type 1 describes a thing which is possible and likely to happen in the present or the future. Example: If you use less paper, you will save a lot of trees. * The conditional sentence type 2 can be used to give advice. Example: If it wasn’t noisy in here, I could hear you clearly. (But it’s very noisy in here) Example: If I were you, I would see the doctor immediately. Note: We can use both was and were with I/he/she/it in the if-clause. In conditional sentences type 1: We use a simple present tense in the if-clause and will+ bare infinitive in the main clause. This is the standard form. Instead of will, we can use other modal verbs such as can, must, may, might or should in the main clause to express ability, permission, advice, possibilities, necessity, etc. Example: - If you cut your finger, it will bleed.
